What does our name mean and where does it come from?

mãe from the Portuguese word for mother and mar comes from the Latin word mare, which means sea.

Maemara is ‘mother ocean’

- our oceans cover more than 70% of the earths surface

- the majority of life on earth is aquatic, an incredible 94% of the earth’s living species exist within the oceans

- over 70% of our planet’s oxygen is produced by the ocean. It’s thought that between 70 and 80 per cent of the oxygen we breathe is produced by marine plants, nearly all of which are marine algae

By 2050, plastic in the oceans will outweigh fish. Let’s just pause for a moment to really take that in.

We simply cannot exist without our oceans. We need them.

There is no planet B.
